"The people of God, as represented by the local Church, should understand and show by their concern that the initiation of adults is the responsibility of all the baptized (Ad Gentes, no.14). Therefore, the community must always be prepared in the pursuit of the apostolic vocation to give help to those who are searching for Christ." -RCIA, no. 9
We welcome our whole community to actively participate in different kinds of formation and ministry. There are three particular ways to get involved at the adult level:
- Catechesis: More than just a rigid intellectual exposition, this role fulfills the call for all the baptised - to give evidence of the spirit of the Christian community by a joyful witness of personal encounter. The catechist should see that their instruction "is filled with the spirit of the Gospel." (no.16)
- Sponsorship: According to the Rite, "a sponsor accompanies any candidate seeking admission as a catechumen. Sponsors... stand as witnesses to the candidates' moral character, faith, and intention." (no.10)
- Hospitality: This is the personal role of invitation and welcoming; perfect for those who seek to provide a warm presence and support.
