Mary is a Illinois native who transitioned to Minnesota for St. Mary's University, in Winona, MN to study broadcasting. After moving to Rochester to interview for a news position, she decided to spend more time with her family, and spent 20 years working with horses in the area.
Having joined the parish in 1984, Mary and her husband remained active in the parish despite his distance from the Catholic faith. In the early 90's, they entered the RCIA program together, and Mary's husband came into full communion after being confirmed by Bishop Vlazny. Their two children went through the entirety of their elementary and secondary education in the RCS system, and remain in Rochester, along with Mary's two grandchildren.
Mary has always been moved by injustice and poverty - awoken in her faith life by the influence of the Second Vatican Council. This made her a natural candidate to be employed by St. John's for social action and outreach.
