Deacon Gerald (Jerry) Freetly was born in Fulda, Minnesota. He joined the US Navy after completing High School. He came back to Minnesota and completed his college education. He then was employed by IBM and worked for them for 34 1/2 years, including a 15 year stint at Cape Kennedy in Florida. It was there that he met and married his beloved wife Carmela and together they had 4 sons. The family moved to Rochester in 1975 and joined St. Johns' parish. Their sons completed their elementary education at St. Johns' school.
His beloved wife, Carmela, died in 1997. He was ordained a Deacon in 2005 and assigned to St. Johns' parish. His parish duties include ministry to the homebound, nursing homes, Federal Prison, hospital visitation, weddings, funerals, and assisting/preaching on Fridays and on Sundays, as assigned.
