Dear Parents of 9th Grade Confirmandi,
We have an exciting year ahead for your son/daughter as they begin their Confirmation preparation! At St. John’s, Confirmation prep begins in the 9th grade year and continues through 10th grade with students receiving the Sacrament in spring of their sophomore year.
“Confirmation is the Sacrament that completes baptism; in it the gift of the Holy Spirit is bestowed upon us” (CCC, 1285). The Sacrament of Confirmation is a beautiful gift given to us and we want to be sure to do all we can to help our young people prepare for, understand and accept it!
In this mailing you will find a registration form for Confirmation and a schedule for the year. 9th graders will meet two Wednesdays a month from 6-7:30pm at St. John’s in both large and small groups that will be led by parents. We will be using an excellent program called “CHOSEN” from Ascension Press that serves as a great resource to aid in the preparation process. In addition to these bi-monthly gatherings, there will be further opportunities for service, prayer, and fellowship!
The first Confirmation meeting will be for students and parents on Wednesday, September 21st from 6:30-7:30pm in the Church. This meeting is mandatory as it is very important to start this journey with everyone together! At this meeting we will talk in detail about Confirmation preparation and you will receive your packet with detailed information regarding the coming two years.
Please fill out the enclosed registration form and return it to the parish office by August 25th. Be sure to put a family e-mail that will be checked often as much of our correspondence is via e-mail. We always want to encourage more parent participation so please let me know if you are open to volunteering in some capacity with the Confirmation class.
I am looking forward to working with all of you and getting to know you and your children! It is such a blessing to work with young people and to be connected with such faithful families all of whom continue to bless me and the work I am called to do.
Please let me know if you have any questions. I am looking forward to seeing you September 21st.
