Parish Synod

Pope Francis calls us to walk and breathe together, listen to each other and allow the Holy Spirit to work in us and through us to guide the Church Jesus entrusted to us here on earth in this synod on synodality. You can learn more about the synod on this page.

Father Mahon offers a reflection on this synod process:

When and where is the meeting?

We gathered on Saturday, February 12th from 10:00am to 12:00pm in the Fellowship Hall just by the Gathering Space. Our group met to listen and breathe together. After the reflection offered by Fr. Mahon, we broke into small groups to discuss the questions. Check back here to get updates on our synod process. Did you miss the meeting? There are still opportunities to participate!

What are we doing?

The group meeting will begin with an introduction, homily and prayer. We will then break into smaller groups to discuss a set of questions and then get back together to discuss what we have heard. There will be a small group facilitator and note taker for each group. We are all called to be attentive and active listeners and while we encourage everyone to share their thoughts, you are not required to do so. However, we want to encourage you to take time and reflect on the questions even if you do not choose to share your thoughts.

Who can participate?

Anyone. You don’t have to be a practicing Catholic, or parish member. All are welcome and encouraged to participate.

What are the questions?

1.What does the Eucharist mean to me?

2.Do I feel like I belong in the parish community? Why or why not?

3.How do we as a Church listen well, and where do we fall short in hearing the voices of all who live in the area?

4.How do prayer and liturgical celebrations actually inspire and guide our common life and mission in our community?

Our final question is a wrap-up of the session

5.What signs have you seen in our community that we are fostering a life of “walking together,” listening to one another, participating in mission and engaging in dialogue – all while paying attention to the movements of the Holy Spirit?

We encourage you to reflect on these questions in advance of the meeting.

What if I couldn’t attend on the 12th?

There are still ways for people to participate, and we want to hear from you! If you feel like you would like to participate but cannot attend any of the options, please contact Michelle Schmid or use our online form to submit your responses.

What will you do with the information you gather in the Synod?

We will summarize it and provide a report to Bishop Quinn, who in turn will convey it on to Pope Francis. We will also use it to guide our parish. You can access the report we sent to Bishop Quinn here. Although we have submitted our report to the Diocese, we still encourage you to share your thoughts with us by filling out the below survey. Our staff appreciates your input and the opportunity to listen to you.
