St. Vincent de Paul
Members of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul are men and women who strive to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to individuals in need. We are part of an international society of friends united by a spirit of poverty, humility and sharing which is nourished by prayer and reflection, mutually supportive gatherings and adherence to a basic Rule. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul offers tangible assistance to those in need. This aid may take the form of intervention, consultation, or often through direct dollar or in-kind service. An essential precept of the Society’s work is to provide help while conscientiously maintaining the confidentiality and dignity of those who are served. The Society recognizes that it must also assume a role of advocacy for those who are defenseless or voiceless.
Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of the month from 7-8 pm in the conference room. If you would like to join SVDP, or need more information, please contact us and we will get in touch with you. New volunteers are needed. We look forward to hearing from you

Seeds of Wisdom
Seeds of Wisdom in South Sudan was established by a group of St. John the Evangelist parishioners in 2011. We currently provide educational opportunities for 237 students. The generous support of donors enabled SOW to build, staff, and operate a primary school in Pukuka, South Sudan - the hometown of Father John Lasuba, a former associate priest at St. John’s.
Our students and their families had to flee to Uganda due to discontent between rebel groups and government forces in South Sudan. We didn’t abandon our students. Within a year we located most of our families and our teachers in the refugee camps and resumed our mission to provide education based in Catholic values. We currently sponsor students enrolled in boarding schools and vocational training programs, but most of our students are taught by our teachers within three refugee camp in Uganda. While we are pleased with what we have established in Uganda, we also look forward to the day we return to our school facility in Pukuka.
A 12-member board oversees SOW’s operations in partnership with our administrator in Uganda, George Okidi Okot. Parishioners who are interested in getting involved with creating brighter futures for these deserving children can learn more at our web site: sowsouthsudan.org -

Communion & Liberation
What is CL? Communion and Liberation, in its essence, is a proposal for education in the Catholic faith. It is an education that doesn’t end at a certain age, but lasts a lifetime because it is always being renewed and deepened. The same is true of the Gospel, which reveals new discoveries even after we’ve heard it a thousand times. The same is true in the experience of love, of artistic creativity, and even in the simplicity of everyday life. The search for what is true, beautiful, and good, and for happiness is never-ending. This is Christianity: the adventure of life, not a kind of training for life.
What is the School of Community? School of Community is a fundamental educational tool for those who participate in the life of the movement. It consists of the personal meditation on a text, followed by community meetings. Work is conceived just like a school: its method consists in a comparison between the Christian proposal and life, in order to verify how faith responds to human needs in every aspect of reality. Participation is free and is proposed in study and work environments. Meetings are generally weekly. -
