Welcome

Please join us in thanking Sharie Furst for her service to our parish community during the last three years as Director of Faith Formation: Children Grades K-8. Sharie joined our staff after having taught and worked in education for over 30 years. While Sharie looks forward to retirement, as a long-time parishioner with husband Jay, we are grateful that they will continue to be present actively serving the community in various ministries and formation opportunities. Sharie stated in her application back in 2020 that she would “be dedicated to providing students with a strong foundation that develops a living Catholic faith, fostering love and care throughout the greater community, and offering the tools and experience to learn about Jesus and his great love for us.” This is exactly what Sharie has done and we are grateful.

Many of you have met Laura Miller, her husband Tony and daughter Margaret, as they have been parishioners and active volunteers here at the Co-Cathedral for years. Laura has been working alongside Sharie during this last year as the newest member of our Formation Team here at SJE. Laura will be taking responsibility for our K-8 Formation program as we wish Sharie a happy and blessed retirement. Thank you for welcoming and supporting Laura in this new role.

Hello friends!

I'm so excited to begin this new chapter of serving our parish as Director of Faith Formation. It's been a wonderful learning experience helping out this year, and I'm so grateful for Sharie's guidance and expertise through this transition.

Although you might have seen us around, here's a little more info about my family: my husband Tony, my daughter Margaret, age 5 ½, and I love to go hiking, camping, and kayaking together. I also like to grow vegetables in my garden during the summer. Tony’s parents Helen and Terry, his sister Katie and her daughters Anna and Amelia also live here in Rochester and attend St. John’s. My parents, Martha and Ray Camp, live in New Jersey where I grew up, and visit us here 2-3 times per year. But I talk to my mom on the phone or video chat almost every day! I also have a brother, Scott, who lives in Connecticut with his wife Cat.

Fun fact about me: I went through RCIA twice before becoming Catholic at the Easter Vigil in 2016. I love celebrating different seasons of the liturgical year and special feast days and saints’ days!

Thank you for your warm welcome and I look forward to getting to know our parish family even better in the coming months.

Blessings,
Laura Miller
