Books and activities at the Liturgical Living Playdate

Most of my days, I am looking for some fun people to be around and a place for my children to play. I also want to deepen my faith and share it with my family. I have always found that joy is one of the bigger drivers for me in pursuing Jesus and his church. To me, there is such joy to be found in the Liturgical calendar. I’ve only recently started to be aware of it but learning about different feast days and taking time to celebrate them results in a lot of celebrating. For me that’s a lot of joy!

I think a lot of Catholics are interested in deepening their understanding of the Liturgical year. People want to celebrate different feast days and dive into the different traditions associated with them. It sounds so fun to me to add in all these extra holidays, but I don’t always know where to start. How does one celebrate St. Nicholas Day? Or All Saints Day? These are great questions and ones we try to help with through the Liturgical Living playdates.

I was so grateful when Megan Rodriguez reached out about hosting a regular opportunity for families to gather at St. Johns and even more excited when she wanted to have it work around the Liturgical calendar. Thus, the Liturgical Living playdates have been born. These are monthly events hosted in the nursery, typically on Friday mornings. There is food and games for the little ones and adults. All activities center around a different feast day. Most recently we celebrated All Saints Day and before that Mary’s Birthday! Wonderful moments to deepen our understanding of church history and an extra opportunity to feast. I love a good feast and am happy there is now a space to celebrate that.

At its core, these playdates are meant to deepen relationships with Jesus, one another and have a place to play. Jesus said, ‘Let the children come to me’ and I see no better way to do this than to introduce them to all the wonders of our Church and the joy that can be found in seemingly ordinary days. This is the goal, and we’d love for you to come join us at our next Liturgical Living Playdate!

The next Liturgical Living Playdate is Friday, December 13th at 9:30am in Room 104. Contact Megan Rodriguez for more information or to get involved at mrodriguez@sj.org or 507-288-7372 Ext. 4503.
